As we think of maskne, for some this is a clever blend of words. For others this is the bane of their existence. As new things have come about in 2020, maskne is another thing to add to the ongoing list. American Academy of Dermatologists has even issued advice on this topic. Many have experienced some form of “maskne” by wearing snug fitting workout clothing, sweatbands, or hats, as it is brought on by friction, rubbing of the skin or excess heat; And now many are experiencing it on the chin, nose, and cheeks; where your mask is covering.

Although masks are not optional in most spaces, here are a few things you can do to prevent the issues that go along with them.

Go Make-up free

Give your skin a break if you can. No one can see those areas anyway:)

Be consistent with your skin regimen

Masks trap dirt, oil and sweat and cellular debris will build up more quickly

A cleanser with antimicrobial properties like Vivants Mandelic Acid 3-In-1 Wash or Exfoliating Cleanser will do double-duty right now, killing acne bacteria and virus germs.

Acids will help loosen and lift dead skin cells, dirt and oil. Vivant’s Daily Repair Pads and Giddie Skins Retinol Pads are an acid cocktail in a textured pad that makes it ultra-simple to keep skin debris-free.

Use your produts timely Its best to avoid using potent ingredients- Vitamin A, benzoyl peroxide, or salicylic acid just before putting on mask. Use your products an hour or two before putting on a mask. This is especially important if you have sensitive skin.

Give your skin a boost

Using a mask a couple of times a week. For oily skin, use Vivant’s Sulfur Clay, or Revisions Black Mask. For acne- prone apply a layer of Vivant BP 10% product underneath the sulfur mask.

Keep hydration

Utilizing an anti-inflammatory such as Vivant Allantoin Hydrating Lotion will help regulate sebum production and speed healing process. For hydrating oily skin, Totaloe Hydrating Gel is fast-absorbing, oil-free formula that reduces inflammation, speeds healing and regulates sebum production.

Wash your mask frequently

Dirt oil and sweat accumulate quickly, have multiple masks on hand so you’ll always have a fresh one.
