HOW DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORK?

Giddie Skin Medspa uses the latest technology with both YAG (yttrium aluminum garnet) & Alexandrite technology to remove hair in a painless fashion. The hair you see is “the tip of the iceberg.” There are three times as many hair follicles beneath the skin surface in a different stage of the growth cycle. Only the hair in the active stage of growth is vulnerable to damage by laser treatment. As the follicles under the skin’s surface become active, they need treatment too. Due to the varying stages in the growth cycle of hair, multiple treatments are necessary.

YAG lasers penetrate deeper into the skin, making them suitable for darker skin tones & they target melanin in hair follicles, impairing their ability to grow. Alexandrite lasers emit a specific wavelength of light that targets melanin in hair follicles. This dual wavelength technology is the gold standard for laser hair removal in all Fitzpatrick skin types. It combines the fastest and most powerful 755 nm Alexandrite laser with an equally powerful 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser for high performance laser hair removal treatment.

Having dark hair in the area intended for laser hair removal is also necessary. The laser emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair. It turns that light energy into heat, creating damage to the hair follicles that produce hair. This damage inhibits or delays future hair growth.

treatment

WHAT IS THE TREATMENT SERIES?

As the stages of hair growth are staggered, so is the treatment plan. Subsequent treatments should be 4 to 6 weeks apart for the face and 6 to 10 weeks apart if done on the body.

After the sixth treatment, the next one can be scheduled when you notice a re-growth of hair. This is the ideal time for permanent reduction as the phases of hair growth are synchronizing together.

Re-treating to soon may result in an ineffective treatment. Re-growth of hair varies but typically occurs about 2 to 5 months after the sixth treatment. Once there is no hair growth for six months, it usually indicates long-term hair loss and no further treatment is necessary at this time (Congratulations!).

The individual response to laser hair removal varies, along with the number of treatments. After successful laser hair removal, you may still have some sparse, light, fuzzy, or fine growth of hair as the laser needs a dark hair follicle to damage and disrupt the growth cycle.
