Beat the Burn: Tips for Sun-Proof Summer Skin

Summer is in full swing, and with it comes endless days of sunshine, lake days, and poolside lounging. While soaking up the sun can be incredibly enjoyable, it’s crucial to protect your skin from harmful UV rays to avoid sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer. But fear not! We’ve gathered some of our favorite tips to help you achieve sun-proof skin while still enjoying every sunny moment.

1. Start with Sunscreen - Your Summer BFF

Sunscreen is your best defense against sun damage. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, and don’t forget to reapply every two hours, or immediately after swimming or sweating. Look for water-resistant formulas to ensure lasting protection through all of your summer activities.

2. Apply Sunscreen Correctly

A common mistake with sunscreen is applying it incorrectly. Many individuals do not use enough sunscreen. Aim for about a shot glass full (2 tablespoons) to cover your entire body. Don’t forget those easy-to-miss spots like the tops of your ears, back of your neck, and the tops of your feet. For your face, a nickel-sized amount should do the trick. Let’s also not forget to reapply! Sunscreen must be reapplied, especially when you’re swimming or in the sun for long periods of time. It’s a good idea to reapply every 2 hours, however you may need to reapply more often while in water or sweating. One last application tip is to check the expiration date! Sunscreen does expire and after the expiration date may no longer protect you from the sun.

3. Don’t Forget Your Lips

Your lips will sunburn too! Use a lip balm with SPF 15 or higher to keep them protected. Reapply frequently, especially after eating and drinking.

4. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Staying hydrated is key to maintaining healthy skin, especially in the summer heat. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and continue to use a hydrating moisturizer to keep your skin supple and refreshed!

5. Consider a Sunless Tanner

If you love the bronzed look but want to avoid sun damage, consider using a sunless tanner. These products can give you a golden glow without the harmful effects of UV exposure. Just be sure to exfoliate before application to reach an even finish!

Bonus Tip: Treat Yourself to a Hydrafacial!

Like we said, hydration is important! After a long day in the sun, treat your skin to a hydrafacial. These facials will help rejuvenate and hydrate your skin, replenishing lost moisture and leaving you feeling refreshed.

By following these simple tips, you can enjoy all the sunny moments of summer while keeping your skin healthy and protected. So go ahead, beat the burn, and make the most of this summer season with confidence and a radiant glow!
